Overflow \ Africa Hope Center

AIDS has ravaged sub-Saharan Africa and left over 13 million orphans. By 2010, over 20 million orphans are expected to live in this region of the world. The Africa Hope Center is a grass-roots response to the AIDS crisis by a local church in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2005, the Christian Missions Fellowship began caring for 5 children who lost both of their parents to AIDS. In the last two years, they have grown their ministry to provide a new family and holistic care for 90 orphans. They are currently in the process of building a facility in the midst of their local area to care for more orphans and empower them to use their God-given gifts as leaders for Kenya in the future.

Our vision as a church community is to join with and support the Africa Hope Center in their work to provide holistic care and hope to orphans through a family environment. As a global family in Christ, we desire to empower these children for the future and create opportunities for them to use the gifts and abilities which God has placed within them to benefit their community and world.

As a community, Visio Dei seeks to continue to build a trusting relationship with the Africa Hope Center leadership team and to work side-by-side to meet the needs of these children.  The pastor of this local church is currently finishing his Ph.D. at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California to understand how to best create future job opportunities and economic sustainability for the center.

We seek to partner with the Africa Hope Center through:

  • Continued friendships that brings mutual transformation and encouragement in Christ
  • Supporting the orphans through prayer, child sponsorships, and consistent communication through our home groups
  • Creatively developing economic initiatives such as micro-finance, e-commerce, and job creation for future development of orphans
  • Developing culturally sensitive teams who can aid in the development of the holistic care sanctuary
  • Working to develop the holistic care sanctuary with the Africa Hope Center
