What is your Staff Role within Visio Dei?

Part of being on a church planting team, is understanding there is not really a role for you. There are multiple roles. Some are exciting like leading worship on Sunday Mornings or explaining to someone how God loves them more than they ever thought possible… and some not as exciting like rolling up sound cables or taking out the trash. Usually my consistent “work” time goes towards what it means for us as a church to celebrate and worship on Sunday mornings (leading worship), investing in the teams that work together for that to happen, holding vision in front of those within our church, and then whatever “area/project” is next on our agenda to take on (like this website.)

What is your favorite part of your job?

There are probably 2 favorite parts. I love the fact that about every week I get to work to create an environment to point people’s attention to who God is, what he has done, what He wants to do, and what He is going to do in our lives and in the world. That is really the lens I look through when we’re celebrating and worshipping together. I believe seeing and reflecting on those things can help us keep our life in perspective. Plus I get to do that usually by playing music with some of my best friends in the world. We have a great music/media team here and I am honored I get to serve with each of them. They are probably my favorite part of my job.

Secondly, I find great joy in communicating with people about where God is calling us as a church. I really do. It’s exhilarating for me. I am not really sure why. It just is. It could be because that it what I am supposed to be doing in my life right now or it could be for some other reason I don’t know… like I said, I am not sure why.

What is your family like?

Well, I am married to the sweetest girl I have ever met in my entire life (She is also really hot.) Her name is Diana and I still can’t believe she married me. We have been married for about 6 yrs now (July 5) and she is a true picture of love and grace in my life. She really is my best friend and I think I am hers;) We like to just be together and act crazy. I never thought marriage could be so amazing.

Diana and I have two babies (TWINS!!!) and they were born August 29th, 2008. One boy and one girl. Aidan and Addison. Born about 3 months early and are doing wonderful. They are incredible. Strong fighters. Being a dad is far more inspiring than I ever imagined. I havn't been doing this long enough yet to really be able to put words to it but I feel so blessed to have them in my life.

We also have a 2 and half yr. old German Shepherd. His name is Tanner and he is pretty much the coolest dog around. He’s about 90 lbs, likes kids, and will bring in the paper.

What is your favorite color?

It depends on the day really. Or what the weather is like. Or what it smells like maybe… I don’t know. I like all colors maybe… they just have to be in the right place.

If you were a fruit… what kind of fruit would you be?

I am really not sure. I am the one who wrote these questions for us as staff to fill out. I am not sure what I was thinking when I asked this one. I think I just saw it somewhere else. Hmmmmmm…..

Well, Traci mentioned that I was like a coconut. When we asked her why she said something to the effect of, “They are hard on the outside but when you poke them with a straw they have milk inside that you can drink.” The only reason I mention this is because I think straws are very weird and if you try and poke me with one I might fight you.

What is your greatest fear?

I will take this question a bit more serious than the others. I honestly have a fear of not being what I am supposed to be. I have a constant feeling that I am supposed to be doing big things… things that make a difference. My fear is that at the end of the day (life really) I would look back and not have been all that I could have been to my family, friends, and world around me.

Who is your favorite worship leader? ;)

Well since I had the privilege of writing these questions I am not really going to answer this one. I just wanted to give Jeff, Traci, and Mandy a chance to say they like me (I know Traci and Mandy do, I am not sure about Jeff.)
