What does Visio Dei mean?
Great question... Visio Dei is Latin for "face of God". Psalm 24:6 speaks of a "generation of those who seek Him... who seeks His face... the God of Jacob..." That is what we want to be about as a church. We want to be a group of people seeking and showing the face of God in our community and our world.
Why would you consider yourself an urban church?
Well, we don't really call ourselves that, but we could be classified as that because we are based out of downtown Raleigh. The reason we chose to be down here has a lot to do with the type of person we connect with. There is a certain type of person who connects with downtown life and, with all of the revitalization going on in Raleigh, we feel as though this is a great place to call home. Having said that, we have people who are deeply involved in our church who live in Apex, Cary, Clayton, Garner and probably other places. We are thankful to be a bit diverse in that regard.
What is the story behind your church?
We are a church plant that started in the Fall of 2006. Our story really began well before then. We started as a ministry at Hope Community Church in Cary, NC. As things progressed and our vision became a bit more defined, it seemed like a very natural step for us to plant a church. Check back in a few years and we'll let you know if it was a good idea or not... hah.
What is the demographic of your church?
We are a very young and vibrant community. While the majority of our church community is in their mid to late 20's, we have a balanced group of folks in their 30's, 40's, and 50's.
I know very little about “church." Would I be welcomed and feel comfortable?
The answer is... “We hope so.” We spend less time focusing on “churchy conversations” and more time on what Jesus would have to say about our life, the world around us, and how we were created to live. We believe that we all need to be constantly reminded of God’s never-ending love for us and the world.
